An Engaging Biopic on the Journey of Chef Tarla Dalal, Streaming Exclusively on ZEE5 Global

Directed by Piyush Gupta, Tarla is a biopic on Chef Tarla Dalal. Huma Qureshi plays the leading lady, stepping into the shoes of the legendary chef for the movie. The movie delves into the remarkable journey and lasting influence of the extraordinary woman as a trailblazer during the early phase of liberalization, empowering women through the culinary arts. Piyush Gupta and Gautam Ved worked together to write the script for the film. Joining the cast are accomplished actors Sharib Hashmi, Bharati Achrekar, Rajeev Pandey, Amarjeet Singh, Purnendu Bhattacharya, and Veenah Naair, who bring their own talent and depth to the film.

In an interview, Sharib Hashmi shared his thoughts on the movie. He stated, “During a time when being an entrepreneur wasn’t even trendy, Dalal broke barriers and became a force to be reckoned with. While many are aware of her journey, not everyone knows the struggles she endured to reach her level of success. People may not realise that Dalal had a supportive husband who played a crucial role in her achievements. He sacrificed his own dreams to help fulfill hers. Together, they made her dreams come true. I hope their story inspires households still under patriarchal norms.”

Director Piyush Gupta expressed his privilege of creating a film that follows the extraordinary journey of Tarla Dalal. He said, “She is a remarkable woman who transitioned from being a homemaker to becoming the go-to guide for homemakers across India. Dalal was a trailblazer in many ways. She was the first woman to have a cooking show and publish a cookbook, and she remains the only Indian to have received a Padma Shri for her contributions to the culinary arts. It is an honor for me to helm a biopic based on her extraordinary life. I couldn’t have asked for a better directorial debut, and I can’t wait for everyone to be inspired by her journey and relive the magnificent times.”
